Saturday Coffee Social Volunteers are the BOMB!

We cannot express the love and gratitude that we have for our Let’s Kick ASS Portland volunteers.

You know the coffee is brewing when Jordan is displaying his wonderful smile.

He faithfully comes in at 9am every Saturday to make sure that coffee is percolating  and is ready for our activity members and guest.

Jordan is funny and witty.

Mr. Fred is our culinary guru who makes a lot of things at home and brings them in. Like his yummy monkey bread. He sometimes gives us the honor of cooking traditional Mexican recipes from his moms old recipe box.

Fred doesn’t like his picture taken, so I am using his crock picture instead, which he uses to make his chorizo biscuits and gravy for everyone.

Troy in the Red Hoodie. Until he has his coffee, he can be a real grizzly bear. But don’t let that fool you, because really has the warmest heart and is as cuddly as a teddy bear.  Always stepping up to make things and to help everyone out.

Todd with 2 d’s, as we call him, is in the blue turtle neck. He is our newbie and went to culinary school and is a great chief. He is so loving, smiling all the time and talks up a storm. He is a huge foodie.

Mark likes sharing the joys of stretching, breathing and yoga. He runs a peer support exercise group before our Saturday coffee socials. The group exercises are done through audio and/or visual recordings.

Mark does not ask for any money or donations. Except that I bet you could pay him in hugs.

John does a lot for our coffee social breakfast. He has been doing some of the major  weekly grocery shopping, carpools and give rides to people that need it. Coordinates who is cooking and works with the activity member volunteers.

John has a warm and friendly personality. This year would not have happened if it was not for John and all that he does.

Thank you John, you are so appreciated.

So when  you see John make sure to say hello.

Maxon is our tattoo’d HoneyDoIt guy. He gives activity members rides, he always gets volunteered to volunteer in almost every thing that we do.

Maxon is one of our biggest helpers in and out of the kitchen and always willing to go the extra mile with a smile.

If you love motorcycles and skiing , Maxon  is your guy.

Dont let Jim’s look here fool you. His wheels are spinning. Jim is active and all over the place. He steps in to help set for our Saturday mornings. He cooks and makes a wonder quiche and fantastic juicy and tender turkeys at thanksgiving.

He is also one of our biggest advocacy and activist. He is currently working with Oregon Rep Sheri Malstrom to make an amendment to a state bill allowing treatment for HIV related Lipodystrophy and lipoatrophy. But he needs your help so please email to get involved.

Robert who is the mans man and loves to work with his hands. He donated and installed the storage cabinets for the WOW (Woman of Wisdom) and for Let’s Kick ASS – Portland so we could store cooking supplies for our groups. Much Gratitude to you Robert.

We thank these activity member volunteers, along with  all of our other activity members and guest for making every Saturday a huge success. They  are the  proof that together we can help enrich each others lives and build a meaning future for all.

Saturday Coffee Social

We are now holding coffee socials at the Quest Center for Integrative Health East Building.

This coffee is for all long-term survivors (see definition below).

We will be serving breakfast in the kitchen area around 10:30 am. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering in the kitchen to help with breakfast.

As our coffee social is self-supporting, we kindly request a $5.00 or more donation to help pay for the space, coffee and breakfast.

There is free parking in the Quest Center lot. The TriMet 20 bus will drop you off on the corner of E. Burnside and 28th. Walk one walk block east on Burnside past Whole Foods and you will find us on the left. We will be located behind Quest’s main building, next to the parking lot.

Like us on Facebook and share this information with your networks that you think will benefit by joining us.

Long-term survivors include anyone who has been diagnosed HIV+ for 10 or more years, as well as those who are HIV- but whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS for 10 or more years. You are also welcome to join us if you are over the age of 50 and HIV+, regardless of your diagnosis date.

All others who are interested in learning more about LKA-PDX may still attend our Saturday coffee socials as a supporter.

We ask that no cologne or perfume be warn, as we want to be mindful of those who have allergies or breathing problems.

SAGE at Grandma’s Corner Kitchen

Every third Thursday we meet at Grandma’s Corner in Milwaukie from 11:30 to 1 or so. This lunch is for all seasoned LGBT community members. The food is really homemade quality and the employees there treat and welcome you as family. Sometimes it is hard to tell if you are in a kitchen, diner or restaurant, but one thing for sure, you definitely feel like you are at grandmas. Even the strangers there will even tell you hello and strike up a conversation like a long lost family or friend whom you haven’t seen for awhile.

So if you are not doing anything and would like to meet some great people in a warm and inviting place come visit us, every third Thursday at Grandmas. It is just a short few blocks from the Milwaukie/Main street max stop on the orange line.

Grandmas Corner located at 10880 SE McCloughlin BLVD, Milwaukie, Or. 97222
